The President of the Commission of the Economic community of West African States is assisted be a vice President and seven (7) Commissioners. The new ECOWAS Vice President is Dr. Toga Gayewea Mcintosh a Liberian who officially assumed office on the 8th of February 2012

 

Role of the Vice President

 

Appointed for a mandate of four (4) years, the Vice President ensures the organizational continuity of the Community in the absence of the President. He assists and supports the President in the discharge of duties related to the discharge of the mandate of ECOWAS. He is in charge of coordination, monitoring and evaluation of programmes, as well as relations between the Commission and other ECOWAS institutions.  He assumes any other responsibilities that are delegated to him by the President of the Commission. He also supervises the Community Computer Center.

 

Beyond his specific functions, the Vice President,  owing to his principal mission of coordination of the Community’s programmes, performs duties  relating to the  boosting and coordination of technical issues and other routine business  through the supervision of a number of  Units essential  for the sound  management of ECOWAS. They are: the Monitoring-Evaluation Unit, the Strategic Planning Unit, and Unit on Relations with other Institutions.

 

These different units placed under the supervision of the Vice President draw their existence and justification from the road map prescribed to the ECOWAS Commission for the realization of its  objectives of regional integration  and development through notably the  operationalization of Vision 2020 moving from an  ECOWAS of States to an  ECOWAS of the People.

 

 

 

The Cabinet of the Vice President comprises:

 

·                     The Monitoring-Evaluation Unit,

·                     The Strategic Planning Unit,

·                     The Unit on Relations with other ECOWAS Institutions,

·                     The Community Computer Center.
